VMX Alerts

I just heard if you have OS 10.5 you shouldn't upgrade beyond 10.5.1.  I was also told not to upgrade Itunes on the VMX system because it effects your uploads or downloads.

Shouldn't there be an alert system for these problems.  If you don't get on the VMX Users Group or find out to late the system could be down.  How about an email alert system warning of these problems.

Here's the thing. There is

Here's the thing. There is no telling  what will happen with each update until after the update is done, and then there is no going back. So here is my suggestion, and I would love it if it were a rule. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT upgrade a working system. It doesn't matter how many updates come down the pipe. If you computer is working, leave it alone. You don't get anything new with updates, you only get bug fixes. If you don't have a bug, then you don't need a fix. This is the professional way to go about using your computer. If there is something that comes up that requires an update, either I or Emily will download the update first, make sure it works, and then we will post here to tell everyone it's okay. Otherwise, leave well enough alone.

To go about doing this, go into your System Preferences (click on the symbol at the top left of the screen and then click System Preferences) and click on the Software Update preference pane in the 4th row, 4th column. At the bottom where it says "Check for Updates...", deselect it. That way you won't be bothered by the update manager. There are no updates necessary for the VMX machines to work. These shouldln't be used for iTunes or Quicktime purposes at the expense of the VMX system. Keep in mind that Apple is mostly concerned with iTunes rentals and Digital Rights Management. Most updates are geared towards these two things, and can make other aspects of you software stop working properly, as we have discovered with Pando.
