Trying a new compression method...
Submitted by Matt Goudey VCAM on February 18, 2009 - 2:12pm
I am trying a new compression method for making H.264 for uploading to Pando. I will tag the video in the name field. If someone can do a test download and conversion for me that would be great. So far, it all works on my machine, but it worked last time too, so... this will be a new test. You will see a file from VCAM with an Elgato tag. Let me know if you (anyone) is willing to do this test. I will post the video as soon as I get a response from someone.
Thanks. If this works we can shave a lot of time off the encode for $100 per machine. I will consult all the necessary people if this takes.

Hey Matt,
Success! The show opened in Pando, was playable as an mp4 on our VMX machine and converted to Mpeg2 as normal with VMX, It plays back fine with our Nexus system and looks and sounds good on this end.

GREAT NEWS! Okay, I will post more on this subject in the near future. I will talk to Emily about it as well. This method was just as easy, but took only 1/3 the amount of time to encode. If you are only doing one or two shows here and there, it might not matter. But I encode and upload about 9 or 10 shows a week and this will save me about 5 to 6 hours of encode time. The unit I am using is the elgato H.264 hardware encoder, in case anyone wants to check it out.
Thanks for being the guinea pig.
Matt
