Specific software question
I want to thank ORCA’s Kenric and Nair for phoning me about the two posts I put up 10 days ago in both Forums.
Theirs was the only response I got, and since I have been told we no longer can get email support for VMX questions, I am hoping someone out there can help us with the remaining problem we have.
We have a lot of time on our Stowe-Jeffersonville-Cambridge access channel to play VMX programs which our viewers would like to see, but our current system of creating and playing DVDs is so time-consuming and limiting that we actually broadcast very few each week.
Our proposed solution is to simply create a play-list of VMX mpeg2 files and let them play continuously off a dedicated computer in the order in which we want, much as we might do with music play list. We have, with the help of ORCA and several others, figured out the hardware chain we need to go out on the system. Stowe Cablevision is providing us the equipment to do this so it must be PC-based.
What we need to know is what is the software that will let us create and then play the play-list of Mpeg2s either on a standard PC or a video server -- whatever. Simple as that.
We have contacted PC system designers, other channels, server manufacturers, vendors, retail specialists, and various websites. To our great surprise, no one can tell us exactly what Windows or other software will do this function, which I would think is a rather basic one.
While I realize most of the Access Cloud lives in the Mac world, I am hoping there is someone besides us who has lived on the Dark Side and knows something about PC software and can help us. Your name will remain our secret forever.
Since we didn’t get any answer to our Mac software questions from either Forum, we can only assume that admitted PC users are being shunned, which is why we will protect the innocent who reply.
Our thanks.

It's not that no one has an answer, but that this is not a VMX question. The VMX process is about file sharing. Your question is about Master Control playout servers, which is a very broad subject. Any Windows based PC can play a playlist using Windows Media Player. You will have to have a video card in that computer that will connect to your video router supplied by your cable service provider.
If you're looking for a playout server, take a look at Princeton Server Group (now called TelVue I think), and look at Tightrope solutions. These are costly, but will give you full playout capabilities.
