Pierre Rehov files
Submitted by Drew Frazier RETN on November 26, 2008 - 2:30pm
For those of you who were trying to air the series of Pierre Rehov documentaries but were unable to successfully download the H.264 files, I am replacing all of those with normal, vmx-transcoded mpg4 files. "From the River to the Sea" and "The Silent Exodus" are complete and ready to download again. I will get to the others as soon as I can (probably early next week).
If there are other RETN programs that have failed to download lately, let me know and I will retranscode/upload them.

Drew, I checked the file sizes and it is obvious that CRV_Presidental Politics is not going to work; Vermont Today #12 and From the River to the Sea Q & A also.
I don't know if you uploaded Vermont Today, but both of these are coming in as .mov files, which do not seem to transcode as readily as mp4s.
Kenric
Kenric, I will
Kenric,
I will recompress and reload the Vermont Today shows. I am still working on the reason why these mov files won't convert, but until I get it I will use only the VMX to compress.

Kenric, I have finished
Kenric, I have finished replacing all of the Pierre Rehov programs with new mp4 files. They can all be successfully downloaded now. I'll replace the CRV-Presidential Politics program today. It should be ready to download tomorrow sometime.
I have downloaded the Down By the Riverside Program on the November Elections ("DBR_2 Part.mp4") successfully. I tried downloading the most recent one ("DBR_RebuildLocal.mp4"), but after downloading over 90% of it, pando is telling me that it is "no longer on Pando's server". We'll have to look into this one, but otherwise, I'd like to integrate that series into our schedule so if you could continue to upload them, that would be great.

Drew,
I redownloaded the Rehov files and the file sizes of the completed MP2s look within the normal range.
You may have more idea why a program might no longer be on pando's server, but one question: does the pando server get full?
Perhaps pando was having an issue and the program is now available.
We are planning to continue uploading DBR. Thank!
Kenric, The pando problem
Kenric,
The pando problem I mentioned has now resolved itself (as you predicted) and the program looks good.
Also, the CRV-Presidential Politics program is now ready for downloads.
Thanks
Kenric, Unfortunately, we
Kenric,
Unfortunately, we don't have unlimited space or time on the server at Pando. We have a 60 expiration on all uploads. So if you need something that has expired, request it and it we should be able to re-upload it.

Drew, We had complaints
Drew,
We had complaints from the viewer that sponsord Rehov and our board president that there was no sound on our broadcast of the Rehov program this weekend. That makes twice I've scheduled it and gone throught process of downloading it only to find it doesn't work when it goes to air.

Hi Kenric, Not sure what
Hi Kenric,
Not sure what could have caused that problem. I'm assuming you're referring to the Marvin Fishman/Pierre Rehov interview. The source (mpeg2) file's audio is fine. That program went through the normal VMX process of simply transcoding the mpeg2 to an mpeg4.
I'll transcode the program again and you can test it out to see if the same problem persists.
Drew
Kenric, Which rehov file
Kenric,
Which rehov file was it. The newest download is a redownload of a September program and it was done with the VMX machine, so it should be fine. It was called rehovinterview.mp4. Is that the one you are having trouble with? Drew is not in today, but I want to try to make sense of this for you. Do you still have the original file in the VMX computer?

Matt, Thanks for looking
Matt,
Thanks for looking into it. It's just rather frustrating, and would be easier to haver hard copy at this point. I should have noted the program names; they are: River to Sea and the Director's Q & A.

Kenric, I just downloaded
Kenric,
I just downloaded the Director's Q&A you mention above and both the downloaded MP4 file and the final MPEG2 file have good audio.
I am not sure what happened on your end. Check the downloaded file in the Pando Packages > Singles folder on the VMX machine and see if that file has audio. It's definitely there. Try transcoding it again. Are you doing this on the VMX computer or a different machine in the office?
