Making VMX more like Pegmedia

Uploading & downloading shows from pegmedia is alot more efficient. searching and finding shows is alot more user friendly. what i like most is the ability to create a show page so that you do not have to constitenly type in data. I really would like VMX to take on a pegmedia form it would make the system a lot morer user friendly. I really would like it if VMX had it own server so that stations could upload directly and not have to use pando. Mabey we could even use the server to encode the videos for us automaitaclly so stations could just upload there native broadcast file. I understand there is cost but i think the ease of use would make it worth it and i'm sure most stations would not mind paying a resonable subscribtion fee. let me know what your thoughts are.

That has been an issue, and

That has been an issue, and the governing board is dealing with it. The fact is, there has been resistance to having the VMX require a fee. Not from everyone, but the ones who don't have the money shouldn't be excluded from the process. The VMX is not for sharing with only those who can afford to pay for the service, but for all to share, ESPECIALLY the ones who can't afford to pay for it.

Pegmedia is not the only setup we are looking at as a model for the next iteration of the VMX project. We are also looking at the Jersey Access Group's CMDN system. It's tied in with many access-centric media servers (Tightrope, Leightronix, TelVue, and Rushworks) and makes it easy to share files with metadata attached.

We are looking into alternatives to Pando, but Pando is very inexpensive compared to paying for a dedicated server.

For anyone using Firefox as your browser (which is the recommended browser for submitting your VMX programming) there is a great add-on called iMacros. It's a customizable auto-fill utility that allows you to put in the information for all the fields you need to enter, and simply press a button to have those fields filled. All you have to do is enter the unique URL from Pando, and an episode number or title. I've been able to submit up to 17 episodes in less than 5 minutes total using this utility. I highly recommend it.

Rest assured, we are working on ways to make the VMX more efficient and user friendly. Bear with us as we go into the next phase of development. We'll keep you all informed.

Thanks for your patience, and for your sharing!
