HandBrake presets

My HandBreak does not include VMX in the pre-set drawer so I used "normal" under "basic" and changed the average bit rate to 2500 from 1500 for the Woodstock vs MSJ hockey game I uploaded today. Is this okay? Also, Firefox performed an automatic update when I opened the application and I hope this won't cause any problems.

Yikes... the update might make it so you don't see the "send to web" info after you upload to Pando. Report back to us if you can or cannot. See the other thread on this forum if is doesn't work. There are some time taking methods you can do to correct it.
And as far as the settings go, you should not go below the 2500 kb/s mark. That is already pretty low to retain the quality of the original mpeg2 file which was most likely twice that. The things that especially need a higher bit rate are those things that have a lot of fast moving objects in them... like a hockey game...

Matt,
Could you look at the Sculpturefest 2008 file and see why Bob Franzoni would have trouble downloading it? He said when he is unable to create an mpeg2 file. It's possible I'm messing it up since I didn't see the VMX presets in HandBrake and I tried to create new ones following the training video Emily made.

What are the settings that you created in Handbrake, and are you waiting for the conversion to complete before uploading to Pando. If you start uploading too soon, you will end up loading an incomplete movie. Make sure the mp4 opens on your machine before uploading if you think there might be a problem. When I get the VNC information to your machine I will take a look at what you have. Might not be for a little while though.

I am downloading like I do all the programs. All the other programs work except Woodstock.

When I came in this morning I found gambit had frozen up over the weekend so I restarted the Vine Server.

The H.264 might be the problem. Even though H.264 is a flavor of MPEG4, it is a different strain. See if you can find a simple MPEG4 setting that is NOT an H.264.

There are two other codecs with H.264 I could use: MPEG-4 (FFmpeg) and MPEG-4 (XviD). Which one would you use?
Look for a NON h.264
Look for a NON h.264 setting. Just a straight MPEG4. Definitely don not use the XVid setting.

Matt, Chris in Rutland was unable to create an MPEG2 file from my upload and said mine had the ext. m4v.pando instead of the mp4.pando that it should have. I suspect this was caused by my incorrect HandBreak setting. My Vine Server is running if you want to take a look. I have two different gambit presets as I am trying to keep track of which changes work/don't work. I suspect this is the reason why Bob F. has the same problem. Thanks. Gerry

Matt,
I just took a look at HandBreak and found the .m4v extension was being put on all the files I sent to pando. I changed it to Users/gambit/VMX/video/nnn.mp4 and hope it will work.

How are you getting to the update? Are you going into the VMX preferences and clicking on Check Now? If you don't get that option you may need to quit VMX and restart it. It only gives you the ability to CheckNow once per session. As of now, I believe the autoupdater is not working, so you need to do it manually.

If it ain't broke, don't fix
If it ain't broke, don't fix it… Do not do any updates on ANY software on the VMX iMac without posting that you have a problem first, and then deciding whether or not your app has a bug. Updates are made to fix problems, not to offer new features. Upgrades offer new features, not updates. Oh, and don't upgrade either…
