audio levels inconsistant & mpeg2 viewing

Hi Matt:

We are trying to make DVDs with some programs previosly downloaded from VMX. We need to first make a single file using systems you and Emily suggested. It has to be  an exact  two-hour DVD,  so there are several programs on the DVD.

When played over  the cable system, there was tremendous variation in audio level, and they couldn't be used at all. Examples: way too high:  McArthur Marlboro documentary and Instant Cofee House with Rick and Bec; somewhat too low: Dartmouth Symphony and  high school Madgrigals singers.

Questions:

Will more recent downloads be consistant in audio level?

Can I mix these existing downloads and adjust their levels someplace on the  iMac to make a 2-hour  file to burn there ? I really don't want to have to bring them  into my PC NLE and adjust them there if I can do it all on the iMac.

I also want to use some Pegmedia mpeg2 programs.  Will their audio be ok and consistant with VMX?

I see on my PC that Pegmedia now has a much-needed preview function for their mpeg2 programs.  I have been unable to view any mpeg2 on my Imac.  I think this is why I can't use Imovie to adjust the audio, but maybe I am not doing it right.

Can a mpeg2 be viewed  on the iMac in any application?

Thanks.

I hope to see you in Hyde Park on Friday.

Ted

Hi Ted, I will be there

Hi Ted,

I will be there Friday, and Emily is back as well. You can view mpeg2 files on your iMac using a program called VLC player, a free download. As far as the inconsistent audio, when were those programs downloaded? We have dealt with the issue of audio normalization, but it would be good to know if the problem persists. I will definitely be available Friday to talk with you more about this. I am not sure I understand what you want to do with making a DVD after you have downloaded a program. You would need to have an mpeg editor if you plan to adjust the levels on an mpeg file. We'll talk more on Friday.

Thanks, Matt.   I

Thanks, Matt.

I downloaded those shows in January or February. I can probably figure out the exact dates if that is important.

I will download the VLC player.

Thanks.

Unfortunately I can't stay for the VMX afternoon session , as I have to be Saratoga  by 6 pm. But I will try to catch you  before the morning starts or at lunch.

Ted
